Charlotte, North Carolina

Thanks to its southern charm and modern sophistication, Charlotte is known as The Queen City, owing its name to Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, wife of King George III and Queen of Great Britain and Ireland from 1744 - 1818. The queen was a patron of the arts as well as an advocate for female education.
Charlotte, North Carolina, the most populous city in the state, enjoys its position as a major city. It’s strong economy, particularly its banking sector, makes it a major financial center, second only to New York City in the United States. In addition to being a business and financial hub, Charlotte is a university town and has a well-educated population.
Visitors and residents can explore post-Civil War history in the South at the Levine Museum of the New South and hands-on science displays at Discovery Place located in Uptown, its modern city center. Interactive exhibits and films celebrate the sport of auto racing at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, also in Uptown. The NFL’s Carolina Panthers and the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets also call the city home.
The city’s overall cost of living is slightly lower than the national average as is the cost of housing, making Charlotte an ideal place to live as well as to visit.
